Webinar

The webinar is a form of remote communication realized in a one-to-many model. It provides mechanisms to work with a group seminar. Among them there are: the option of muting and unmuting selected individuals, the ability to work in a team (the whiteboard), the ability to vote (raising hands), the possibility to share one’s opinion or ask a question (the chat). In contrast to webconferences, webinars are usually conducted with smaller groups, which allows the trainer to enter into interactions with the audience.

Worth to know

  • If you're planning a webinar for 200 people, you'll need to plan your communication with participants differently than if you were planning for 10 people. With 200 participants, asking for responses to a question in chat will lead to a flood of answers, making it difficult to capture the opinions of the entire group. In this case, a poll might be more effective. In a 10-person group, you can comfortably use chat as well as audio and video conversations.

  • For webinars where you expect a large volume of questions, conduct them with a moderator. It's challenging for the presenter to focus on the substantive content of the webinar and keep track of questions from participants asked in the chat.

  • Webinars are an excellent complement to workshop-style training cycles or e-learning courses. For example, before an in-person training session, participants meet in a virtual room with the presenter, who conducts a lecture (goal: knowledge transfer) for the participants. During the in-person training, there is more time available to practice the newly acquired knowledge.

  • Just like other forms of online training, webinars also work well in companies with a geographically dispersed structure. Webinars are also suitable for companies organizing training sessions for employees conducted by experts who are unable to travel to the company's headquarters to lead them.
